Stem Cell Therapy

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are cells with the potential to develop into a variety of cell types in the body. There are two main types of stem cells, embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells, their main purpose is to serve as a repair system for the body. One of the greatest sources for stem cells is adipose tissue. These cells, stored within adipose tissue, are extracted and utilized through our specialized process. The Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) is the initial product obtained from adipose tissue processing. It contains millions of mesenchymal progenitor cells that are undifferentiated, meaning they have the potential to transform and regenerate various damaged tissues. This material is harvested from your own fat and processed in our on-site laboratory.

Because adipose-derived stem cells are autologous, meaning they are sourced from your own body, there is no risk of rejection as there might be with stem cells from other sources, such as umbilical stem cells. However, some individuals may not be suitable candidates for this procedure or may require further consultation. Reasons that may prevent someone from being a candidate for stem cell therapy:

  • Patients with active infections
  • Patients without enough adipose tissue to harvest
  • Patients on an anti-coagulation protocol
  • Patients who have had cancer within the last five years
  • Advanced age
  • Joints that are bone through bone

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

Following a consultation with a regenerative specialist to determine if the SVF stem cell therapy procedure is appropriate for you, a 3-hour procedure will be scheduled. To optimize the effectiveness of the procedure, you will be asked to aggravate the affected joint 1-2 days before the procedure, as stem cells are drawn to areas of inflammation.

During the procedure, a minor liposuction will be performed under local anesthesia to extract fat. This fat is then processed to obtain the SVF fluid containing stem cells, which will be injected into the damaged joint and also added to an intravenous solution for systemic treatment. The injection process may cause brief discomfort that typically subsides immediately.

*The procedure is divided into two parts, both conducted on the same day. The first part lasts 45-60 minutes, followed by a 90-minute break, and the second part lasts 30-45 minutes.
